The Health Navigator program provides support and advocacy to members of First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities living in urban areas by:

 

  • Facilitating and coordinating access to health services

  • Responding to cultural and spiritual needs

  • Connecting with Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners to ensure a culturally safe care pathway

 

How can health navigators help me?

 

Navigators can help you with:

  • Scheduling medical appointments

  • Referrals to other services

  • Support in hospitals or other health facilities

  • Support in filling out forms and obtaining the necessary documents (health card, hospital card, Indian status card)

  • Emotional and cultural support

  • Access to traditional medicines such as sage, sweetgrass, tobacco and cedar

  • Connecting with Elders or Knowledge Keepers for cultural support

  • Advocacy for patients' needs and rights

  • A better understanding of the health system

  • Translation services as needed
